David Holmes

David needs no introduction. He made his debut at Convenanza last year with an amazing opening party + two ‘Music’s Not For Everyone’ sessions.

In his various roles as acclaimed DJ, film composer or producer, Belfast-based Holmes never stops. You get the sense that, at the centre of it all, there is a burning, restless mind at work, alive to possibility.

We’re delighted he’s joining us again.

Vladimir Ivkovic

Hailing from Belgrade, Serbia, Vladimir Ivkovic grew up collecting records, establishing himself as a selector from an early age. Now a local in the bustling city of Dusseldorf, Ivkovic is a long-term regular at one of the city’s most infamous venues, Salon Des Amateurs. In addition to launching his own experimental label Offen in 2015, Ivkovic also manages Loco Dice’s dance-focused imprint, Desolat. His C.V. includes Berghain (Berlin), Nitsa (Barcelona), Kaiku (Helsinki), Sub Club (Glasgow), Phonox (London), The White Hotel (Manchester), Zukunft (Zurich), Concrete(Paris), Lux Fragil (Lisbon) and Robert Johnson (Frankfurt). Renowned for his leftfield and often challenging live sets, Ivkovic continues to deconstruct and disassemble the notion of dance music, retaining a fierce sense of originality in the process.

SONS OF SLOUGH

Sons of Slough are Ian Weatherall and Duncan Gray. This collaboration started in 1997 as a live electro project and they released records on a variety of labels including Skint, Electrix, Sprungcartelwachs, and Whole9Yards, and played many shows with a monthly residency at London’s legendary Turnmills club. The guys remained close friends during this musical hiatus and Duncan formed the renowned tici taci label with help and encouragement from Andrew. and is one of the most featured labels of the ALFOS parties, reaching it’s ten year anniversary this year. In 2019 the duo started making music together again resulting in their first release for tici taci (Front Cog) and released a mini album (Bring me Sunshine). They also released the tribute to Andrew - a version of New Order’s “In a Lonely Place” on Rotters Golf Club under the alias IWDG. Sons are coming back to play their first live shows since 2005, with an updated sound and completely fresh set of tracks reflecting their more recent output. The show promises to be a unique musical experience and they are looking forward to joining everybody at Convenanza in 2023.

Vox Low

They will release their new album in September. To celebrate our 10 year anniversary, it seemed apt to invite a band who created quite a sensation last time they played in the temple of Gnostic Sonics. Expect fat ESG basslines with Moroder arpeggiator inducing shamanic hypnosis in the courtyard. For Vox Low, stage performance is a founding act. It even has to do with pure ceremony, which quickly brought the band its cult aura and the support of Andrew Weatherall, Ivan Smagghe, Jennifer Cardini… Seeing the combo on stage is an act of faith, a celebration of an ancient ritual. Far from lazy live performances on Ableton, Vox Low is like an acid-house version of Neu! on stage.

A Love From Outer Space

A Love From Outer Space has, since 2010, been a steadying anchor on the underground, sustaining one of the most dedicated communities around with regular dancefloor epiphanies.

After Andrew’s departure, in the eternal spirit of ‘…Sail We Must’, Captain Sean Johnston has determined to continue the vibe that the pair spent so many beautiful years patiently cultivating: ‘As far as ALFOS is concerned - whilst he didn’t leave a map - he did leave a very strong compass bearing. In a way, the many sets over the course of the decade we DJ’d together seemed like a dialogue between us about what the ALFOS aesthetic should be. He left me well-schooled and oriented to follow the path’

Om Unit (ACID DUB STUDIES)

Bristol’s Om Unit has released two volumes of his ‘Acid Dub Studies’ project, fusing his love for the 303 with studio techniques given to us by musical heroes such as King Tubby, Adrian Sherwood, Jammys and Basic Channel. The beloved 303 bassline continues to inspire every new generation and Acid Dub Studies is another storybook of sound in that vast continuum that shows no sign of slowing down.

ACID KLAUS

Adrian Flanagan, also known as Acid Klaus, is a British musician, songwriter, and producer known for his work in the electronic and psychedelic music genres. Flanagan has collaborated with a number of well-known artists throughout his career, including The Eccentronic Research Council, The Moonlandingz, and Dean Honer.

Flanagan’s music is characterized by its eclectic mix of influences, ranging from classic rock and pop to acid house and techno. He often incorporates vintage synthesizers, drum machines, and other electronic instruments into his compositions to create a unique sound that is both retro and modern.

‘The Acid Klaus live collective experience is not dissimilar to taking ecstasy. You will feel love, you will feel euphoria, you will feel the crashing lows of your own insatiable lust for a good time! But don’t let that put you off!’ Says Adrian.’

League’s Philip Oakey, Fat White Family, Sean Lennon and many more.

Adrian returns with his debut album under the Acid Klaus moniker, Step On My Travelator: The Imagined Career Trajectory of Superstar DJ & Dance-Pop Producer, Melvin Harris. The album is a conceptual electronic dance pop record that marks the career trajectory of a fictional DJ & dance music producer: from his early years of performing at free festivals and raves – to having a dance pop crossover singlego global – to the excess & hedonism & vampires of clubland culture – to the wheels falling off completely and the longing to retreat in to anonymity.

‘The Acid Klaus live collective experience is not dissimilar to taking ecstasy. You will feel love, you will feel euphoria, you will feel the crashing lows of your own.

Ivan Smagghe

His presence in the Temple of Gnostic Sonics was long overdue. When he came to live in London he joined the boss in the fight to prove that electronic music is so much more than a one dimensional soundtrack for a night on the lash. Everybody remembers those legendary Wrong Meeting sessions with Andrew at Shoreditch’s T-Bar.

Since 2013, after co-running the legendary french label and parties, « Kill The DJ », Ivan has been heading up his own imprint, “Les Disques De La Mort”; an outlet for a unique taste in music and spanning releases & remixes from long staples (Manfredas, Cosmo Vitelli, Marco Passarani, I-Cube, Red Axes, Roman Fluegel) & special new comers (Elles, Sworn Virgins, Zillas on Acid). LDDLM is a label that is always faithful to an instinctively recognisable “style of no style” and the refusal to be pigeonholed. Ivan’s new project “Dresden” (with Lithuanian legend Manfredas who played a blinder at Convenanza last year) is a celebratory manifestation of this ethos - in party and record label form. In the castle this year he will be joined by Chloé for a spectacular B2B! Adrian.’

CHLOÉ

Chloé has helped define the transformative power of a club and the emotional power of a DJ set. In recent years, she has played major festivals (Mutek, Burning Man, Sonar, DGTL, Nuits Sonores) as well as holding a residency at Rex Club. Her sets are a unique experience, as Chloé often performs in all night long formats that allow her to take the audience on unexpected journeys. She manages to create unique connections between various musical aesthetics, physical and mental sensations. An oblique way of approaching the dj set without leaving the audience on the sidelines, which has made her reputation with dancers all over the world.

At the helm of her own label, Lumière Noire Records, capable of performing in clubs as well as festivals, in museums or halls dedicated to contemporary music, Chloé is a key artist on the current scene, where each track she plays contributes to lifting us a little further away from reality and prefabricated schemes.

HÔTEL DE LA CITÉ

Hôtel de la Cité was Andrew’s favourite spot in the castle. They’ve been supporting the festival since day one. It’s an amazing place with a Michelin star restaurant and a stylish cocktail bar with an English-gents-club-meets-library look for cosseted drinking.

If Jay Gatsby threw a bash, it would probably look like this hotel bar. The back garden is a haven of peace, overlooking the city and the pyrenees mountains.
